Walsall Ladies Manager Jason Barrowclough was pleased with the performance of his team despite losing 1-5 to Leek Town Ladies in the opening game of the 2019/20 Season.
The Saddlers opened their campaign at Dales Lane last Sunday afternoon, the home of Rushall Olympic. Barrowclough was without a number of first team players for the game, resulting in the Saddlers line-up being a mixture of first team and development players and whilst the result wasn’t an ideal start for the team, Barrowclough expressed that there were many positives to take from the game.
“Of course, it is disappointing to start the new season with a defeat, “he said.
“The first game of the season is always a tough one to crack and unfortunately for us it wasn’t to be on the day. We were missing a number of first team players which was a big factor leading up to the game.
“On the whole Leek Town Ladies deserved to win the game. It was always going to be a challenging game and they were good on the ball and clinical in front of the goal. To begin the new season with a defeat is obviously not ideal but this will only act as a learning curve for us.
“I was pleased with the determination and the effort from the Ladies. Despite the score line, they stayed focused and gave it their all until the final whistle.
“It’s a long season and the Ladies know that there will be some bumps on the way. We have some things to work on in training and all being well we hope to get a result against Wyrley Women’s Reserves on Sunday.”
