Walsall Ladies striker Kelly Fowell has expressed her delight with the start that she and the team have made to the 2019/20 Season.
The Saddlers forward has contributed seven goals in two games to help secure consecutive victories against Wyrley Women’s Reserves and Pelsall Villa Colts respectively and she is happy that the team have been able to put the opening day defeat behind them and gain two wins in quick succession.
“It’s’ been a great start,” said Fowell.
“To lose on the opening day was disappointing for us all but we didn’t let that result knock our confidence and we were determined to come back fighting and that is exactly what we have done since.
“Going into Sunday’s game we knew we were going to experience a tough game against a good side but after our win at Dales Lane last time out we were confident in following up from that.
“The team played very well with some great passing and team work. We are still forming as a team and getting to know each other’s game but the determination and passion throughout the team to win on game days is shown by all. I am positive that as the season goes on, we will get stronger.”
With the Saddlers forward scoring seven goals in as many games, Fowell is hopeful that she can continue her good run of form and help the team reach their goals.
“I believe I have started the season really well. I am hopeful that I can continue to score in games and add to my tally throughout the season. What striker doesn’t want that?
“I always set myself personal targets to reach and having met these in previous seasons I am confident in myself and with the players I have behind me that I can do more of the same.
“But of course, what matters most is how the team perform.
“Our main aims as a team is to continue to enjoy our football, develop as individuals and as a collective and achieve a promotion spot. That is what we are all working towards and we know that if we work hard enough, we will get there.
“Personally, I think we have had a good start to the season and hopefully the defeat to Leek Town Ladies will be our only defeat of the season.”
