Walsall Ladies are back in action this weekend as they face Stafford Town on Sunday 29th September.
The Saddlers are on good form recently after four wins on the bounce and go into the game on the back of a 2-6 victory away at Pelsall Villa Colts. Striker Kelly Fowell added to her already impressive goal tally with five goals in this game and although she was happy to do so last time around, her sole focus since Monday has been on this weekend.
“Winning again last week was a huge bonus for us,” said Fowell.
“We were very happy coming off the pitch with how we played and how we conducted ourselves. Even when we suffered some setbacks in the game, we never sunk under pressure and we kept fighting until the final whistle and got what we deserved in the end.
“It was great to add to my personal goal tally last week but my focus now is on Stafford Town and to turn four consecutive wins into five.”
Sunday’s opponents Stafford Town currently sit in 3rd place with three wins, one draw and one loss to their name and sit just two points behind the Saddlers and manager Jason Barrowclough is expecting a very tough afternoon.
“I’m excited for Sunday but also nervous at the same time as we will be playing a very well organised side who have made a bright start to the season,” said Barrowclough.
“But as I tell most people nerves are a good thing to have and the spirit in the camp has been fantastic recently and has been all season. We come into the game on the back of four consecutive wins so although I am expecting a close encounter, myself and the players feel confident that we can get it right on the day and get the three points.
“With Stafford Town trailing us by two points, it is imperative that we don’t drop any more points as the top of the table is getting tight now. But I am happy with where we sit at the moment.”
Sunday’s game between Walsall Ladies and Stafford Town kicks off at 1pm at West Walsall E-Act Academy, Primley Avenue, WS2 9UA.
