Walsall Ladies are back in action this weekend as they face Stoke City Ladies on Sunday 17th November in the second round of the County Cup.
The Saddlers go into this game on the back of a disappointing 1-9 home loss to local neighbours Walsall Wood, a result which eliminated the Ladies from the League Cup.
With more cup action on the horizon, the team turn their focus to Sunday’s game and despite the disappointing loss last time around, Ladies manager Jason Barrowclough has expressed that the mood in the camp has been positive and full of energy.
“The mood in the camp is really positive,” said Barrowclough.
“Considering the result from last week which was of course disappointing, the Ladies have responded well and have been a credit to themselves. We have addressed some areas which let us down against Walsall Wood and the team are giving it their all in training so you can’t ask for much more.”
Sunday’s opponents Stoke City pose a real threat for the Saddlers and Barrowclough is expecting a tough afternoon.
“There is no doubt that Sunday will be difficult,” added Barrowclough.
“We know they have a lot of strengths and have won this Cup for the last few seasons so we are expecting a tough afternoon on Sunday. This will be the biggest test that me and the Ladies have had so far since being together, that’s for sure. Despite the gap in divisions between us and Stoke, I know my team will give it their best shot and in football anything can happen so I am hoping we can go out there, give a good account of ourselves and hopefully come out the other side with some positives to take forward.
Sunday’s County Cup game between Walsall Ladies and Stoke City Ladies kicks off at 2pm at Dales Lane.
